PALATAL EXPANDER
WHAT IS A PALATAL EXPANDER?
Palatal expanders are devices used to expand the upset jaw to enable other teeth to grow well and fill-in properly. Expanders are nothing to be nervous about. They are very useful to guide teeth formation and growth in children. This way, we simply take advantage of the natural teeth growth to correct any dental or oral issues. We are more than delighted to hear from you. Send us your questions and concerns, and we will get back to you with ingenious solutions. Better still, you can schedule an appointment with us and we will be glad to receive you at True Dental Care®!
HOW DO I TURN MY EXPANDER?
Expanders are attached to the (first) molars with the aid of bands that have an expansion device across the upper jaw or roof of your mouth. The expansion screw widens every time it’s turned. You can turn the expander by inserting the expander key and fixing it in the right direction. Use the key to turn the expander screw until the next mark is reached. Turning the screw exerts enough pressure to widen the upper jaw without causing any discomfort, while also helping the tissue adjust to their new position. To ensure that you have a clear view, you can get someone to hold a flashlight while you lie down flat on the floor or bed.
